Change My Academic Advisor

Summer 2022:  OTC is transitioning to a new student success model and will be assigning all students to a full time Navigator (Advisor) effective Fall 2022.  Therefore, requests for a change in faculty advisor will be delayed until new Navigators are in place and can take new students.  All students (except visiting) should be assigned a College Navigator by September 1, 2022.

In the meantime, students not already assigned a College Navigator and needing academic advising should schedule an appointment with our summer advising team.

Who is my academic advisor/navigator?

All enrolled, degree seeking students have an assigned academic advisor/navigator. To locate your advisor or navigator’s contact information, follow the steps below:

  1. Login to myOTC
  2. Select ‘Student Planning’
  3. Select the ‘Student Planning’ dropdown
  4. Select ‘View My Advisor’
  5. Your assigned advisor or navigator’s name will be listed and linked to their email address

Faculty advisors may not be available when classes are not in session. During these times, General Education, certain Technical Education, and pre-Allied Health students will be assisted by the professional advisors in Student Services. Students admitted to an Allied Health program will be assisted by the Allied Health department.

I don't have an academic advisor/navigator; who can I contact for help?

Visiting students and students who are not currently enrolled at OTC do not have an assigned academic advisor/navigator; if you have general questions, you can contact Student Services for assistance.

High School program students (Dual Credit, College Now, Career Center, and Middle College) students also do not have an assigned academic advisor. Students in these programs should contact their respective program office for assistance.

Degree seeking students who are currently enrolled and do not have an assigned academic advisor/navigator should contact advisorassignments@otc.edu for assistance.

How are advisors/navigator's selected?

You will be assigned an advisor or navigator who to best suits your unique path here at OTC; we use factors like your academic program, admit status, and preferred campus location.

Can I choose my advisor/navigator?

If you would like to select a preferred advisor, you may submit the Change my Advisor form and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

When should I contact my advisor/navigator?

Your advisor/navigator can help you plan your semester, access resources, and ensure you are on the right track for graduation! Students should contact their advisor or navigator at least once a semester.

What is the difference between an advisor and a navigator?

Both advisors and navigators are here to help you be as successful as possible! Whether you are assigned a navigator or an advisor is generally determined by your program of study and preferred campus location.
