Job Title: VA Work Study

Description & Responsibilities:

Position Summary

The Work-Study Allowance Program offers an additional, non-taxable allowance to students in return for performing VA-related work activities. This is a supplement to VA Education Benefits which may provide additional funding to allow a student to pursue and accomplish educational goals. Work-Study students earn an hourly wage, generally 20-25 hours per week, equal to the federal minimum wage, or the state minimum wage, whichever is greater.

Essential Job Duties

  • Disseminate general information regarding veteran benefits and/or services
  • Direct students to Student Success resources, including College Navigators
  • Prepare, organize, process veteran-related documents and files
  • Participate in student well-being calling campaigns
  • Assist with review of reports related to certification and enrollment
  • Oversee traffic and activity in Student Veteran Lounge if assigned
  • Participate in meetings and/or training as requested
  • Communicate with student veterans about essential information related to their benefits
  • Exhibits exemplary attendance and punctuality
  • Complies with college policies and procedures, including FERPA and other confidentiality agreements
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including attending college functions

Location of Position: Information Commons Building, ICW109

Campus: Main Campus-Springfield

Reports To: Janelle Quesenberry, Veteran Services Representative & Zack Wolfe, VMSO Director

Requirements

Skills/Abilities:

Work Experience:

  • Must be eligible to participate per approval of VA Form 22-8691
  • Basic computer competency and ability to manage various streams of data
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others, including students and staff and other constituents
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Experience with a collegiate setting
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations governing VA Education Benefits

Education Requirements:

Must be eligible for an approved VA Education benefit as determined by VA
