Position Description:

Job Title: Part-time VUB Office Assistant

Description & Responsibilities:

Position Summary

The part-time Veterans Upward Bound Office Assistant is responsible for assistance with projects related to Veterans Upward Bound, as well as supervising, and maintaining the academic lab. Veterans Upward Bound provides assistance for veterans returning to the classroom.

Essential Job Duties

  • Provide clerical support by answering telephones, photocopying, word processing, and handling academic testing.
  • Perform various administrative tasks as assigned, such as filing, organizing office supplies, and maintaining office order.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned, including but not limited to:
    • Managing and updating the Scholarship Excel Sheet.
    • Assisting with events and social media efforts.
    • Creating online workshops.
    • Weekly data updates from the VUB Canvas Page.
    • Preparing and sending monthly mailers.
    • Preparing and sending birthday mailers.
    • Conducting cold calls to prospective participants.
    • Following up with current and past students.
  • Interact professionally and appropriately with participants, VUB staff, OTC staff, volunteers, and the community.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner, respecting co-workers and VUB participants.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Location of Position: Information Commons Building, ICW217

Campus: Main Campus-Springfield

Reports To: Jennifer Patillo, Academic Coordinator & Victoria Ratcliff, VUB Program Director

Requirements

Skills/Abilities:

Work Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible.
  • Ability to accept persons from diverse backgrounds and economic situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and patience.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite).

Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Experience working within a collegiate setting.
  • Experience with Colleague.

Education Requirements:

Must be eligible for an approved VA Education benefit as determined by VA
